Duncan, Moses D. Duncan, Isaac R.W.P. Duncan, all my land after the death of my wife to be equally divided; remainder sold and money equally divided among my first and second wifes children, also the household and kitchen furniture, mare, cow and calf or any part that my wife may leave to be equally divided among the above named children.       Vol.1/2, 1829-1846, pg.143: March term, 1846. John N. McGee guardian to the minor heirs of Isaac Dunkin decd, makes the following return of moneys which came into his hands belonging to Wm. B. Dunkin, Moses Dunkin, Isaak W.D. Dunkin, Maryan Dunkin, the sum of $84 received the 6th day of January 1846. /s/ J.N. McGee.
            John W. McGee charges the estate of Isaac Dunkin decd as guardian for services rendered and expenses as follows, viz, paid clerk of Haywood Co. Court for ..., paid clerk of Anderson Co. for ..., 2 trips to Anderson Co. TN 8 days ea ..., 2 days there tending to business of the estate ..., expenses of the two trips, council for B.M. Edney ... $50.80 total. The above claim allowed by court.
      Additional information: Isaac Duncan had married Tebitha Smith in 1829 ("Haywood Co. NC Marriage Bonds"). The 1850 census of Haywood Co. NC shows Moses Duncan 15 TN and Mary Duncan 12 TN in the household of Michael Hill 38 NC and wife Talitha 38 NC; Tebithy Dunkin mar. Mikiel Hill in 1844 ("Haywood Co. NC Marriage Bonds"). William Dunkin mar. Susanah Harper in 1845 in Haywood Co. NC ("Bonds") and is in Haywood Co. NC in 1850 (pg.146) and 1860 (pg.642). Mary A. Smith Dunken mar. Dr. Thomas Copelen in 1852 in Haywood Co. NC ("Bonds"). Moses Duncan mar. Nancy C. Estes in 1853 in Haywood Co. NC ("Bonds"); he is in Rabun Co. GA in 1860 (pg.515, #170) as M.D. Duncan 26 TN, Nancy C. 24 NC, and children, and in Jackson Co. NC in 1870 (pg.288, #39) as Moses Duncan 36 TN, Nancy C. 34 NC, and children. Asal Duncan may be (NO PROOF) in 1850 Jackson Co. TN (pg.184) as Asahel Duncan 27 TN, wife Sally 24 TN, and daughter. Isaac W.D. Duncan (or Isaac R.W.P. Duncan) may be the Isaac Duncan who married Martha Low in 1846 in Anderson Co. TN, and is on the 1850 census there on pg.76 as Isaac Duncan 22 TN; Martha 20 TN, no children.

      State of TN vs. Asel Duncan, Assault and Battery on Anne Adcock. Documents 1874 on; include subpoena to John A. Duncan and Sally Duncan, 16 May 1884, both now confined to bed and likely they will die by consumption before the cause can be heard; Asel Duncan and Sarah E. Duncan own two valuable tracts of land March 1884; Anne Adcock wants the land to pay off judgement; 31 Aug. 1886 statement by R.A. Cox that Asel Duncan is deceased and Sarah E. Duncan is his admx.

      Will Book 1, pg.32: 26 Nov. 1836, will of Joseph Duncan, to beloved wife Lydia Duncan plantation on which I now reside and black boy Bue; after her death he should be freed; also to Lydia all stock, furniture, etc.; at her decease executors expose at public sale the land, and give the sum equally between Sally Campbell, Elisabeth Scrugs, Robert Duncan, Barckley M. Duncan, Ann M Lane, and Polly Hughes; to Marvel Duncan I have given what I deem equal to the above when he first married in a tanyard and lett(?); Robert Duncan and Moses D(?) Scruggs executors. Wit.       MAD: Joseph Duncan was the son of Rice Duncan who d.1776 on an expedition against the Indians, and wife Elizabeth Duncan who deeded land to her sons in 1797 in Washington Co. TN, Deed Book 6, pg.94; see Duncan Association Newsletter Vol.4 #2, 1996. "Joseph Duncom Junior of Rice Duncom" was a beneficiary in the 1825 will of Roseannah Stephenson, widow of John Duncan who was a brother of Rice Duncan (Washington Co. TN Will Book 1, pg.151)
      Additional Blount Co. TN information: Liddy Duncan, age 70-80, and a female age 15-20 are on the 1840 census in Blount Co. TN (pg.74). Sarah Duncan mar. Andrew Campbell in 1820 ("Blount Co. TN Marriages 1795-1910" by Little), but there was also a loose marriage bond for Sarah Duncan to Isaac Campbell in 1818 ("Ansearchen News" Vol. 27, 1980, pg.20).      Elizabeth Dunkan mar. Moses Scruggs in 1830 ("Blount Co. TN Marriages") and is on the 1850 census in Blount Co. TN (pg.14, #187) as Moses Scroggs 65 NC, Eliza 49 TN, and others. Ann Duncan mar. John McClain in 1832 ("Blount Co. TN Marriages") and is on the 1850 census in Blount Co. TN (pg.15, #209) as John McClain 40 TN, Ann 40 TN, and children. Polly Duncan mar. Moses H.       Pg.449: Hon. John H. Duncan, judge of the First District of the County Court of Buchanan County, from Crawford township, is a man of prominence in this section where he has lived for more than 55 years. ... Judge Duncan was born in Cherokee Co. AL, and is a son of Col. B.M. and Amanda (Lawrence) Duncan, his father being a colonel in the State Militia of Alabama, having held a commission under Governor Arthur P. Bagby. B.M. Duncan erected the first cotton gin and compress in the Cherokee Purchase of Alabama. In 1845, with his family, he came to Buchanan Co. MO, overland with ox teams and horses, a long hard journey. In this county he followed farming until his death in the early "eighties" at the age of 80 years. His grandfather came to this country from Scotland, and was killed during the Revolutionary War. His wife's uncle also served in the War of the Revolution. B.M. Duncan was a candidate for the Legislature of Missouri in 1860, but was defeated by a small plurality. Mrs. Duncan is now living with our subject at the advanced age of 90 years and is enjoying very good health. John H. Duncan had a half brother, who followed farming and milling in Kansas until death. He has five sisters, all living: Mrs. John Lockwood, of Columbia, Missouri, mother of Dr. William Lockwood of South St. Joseph, and B.M. Lockwood, an attorney of St. Joseph; Mrs. I.V. LaTourett, of Cleveland, Oklahoma, whose husband formerly was a stockman near Maryville, Nodaway Co. MO; Mrs. J.H. Utz, who lives near St. Joseph; Julia, wife of Richard Burch, of Bartlesville, Indian Territory, where he formerly was a teacher and school commissioner; and Mrs. C.M. Davidson, whose husband is a farmer near Dearborn, Platte Co. MO. John H. Duncan was five years of age when brought to Buchanan County, and here was reared and educated. ...

      Will Book 2, pg.99: 19 Oct. 1854, will of Judge (X) Dunkin, proved 6 Nov. 1854. Wife Susan during her life or widowhood all property; eldest daughter Rebeca now Rebeca Cathrum have property she now holds, being cow & calf & bed & clothing ... which I may have given her at her marriage until an equal distribution of entire estate may become necessary; my second daughter Martha Ann Elisabeth when she arrives at lawful age, marrys or leaves the house of her mother shall have cow & calf & bed & clothing & furniture as my eldest daughter now has; my other daughters Mary Jane Susan Caroline Polly Congo Sarah Sapson? and Frances More when they arrive at full age like the first; my three sons John Thomas Dunkin William Watson James Wiley (no commas) have one horse bridle & saddle; upon death of wife Susan then the oldest heirs then single if it can be suitably arranged have possession of the property & charge of the family until the youngest child may arrive at lawful age; equal proceeds of sale be made between my heirs; appoint Christian Casiger & John H.       Will Book D, pg.600: 14 Sept. 1857, will of George Duncan; to my daughter Elizabeth Hart and her heirs an equal portion of my estate with the heirs herein after named; to the heirs of my son Jeremiah Duncan, each of them have an equal share of the money coming from my estate to the said Jeremiah Duncan, deceased, with the exception of the two youngest children who is not to account for any interest on notes I hold on the said Jeremiah, deceased; to the heirs of James Duncan, deceased, an equal share of my estate coming to James Duncan, deceased; mention my son George, deceased, whom I have given a plantation previous to this time and consider it more than an equal share with the balance of my heirs; to my daughter Mary Spencer an equal share or portion of my estate; to my son Benjamin Duncan an equal share or portion of my estate with the ballance of my heirs; any note or notes I may hold on said heirs shall be counted against them the same as money and that intrust shall be counted anuly on said notes from the time they fall due, I mean that intrust shall be counted so as to compound annully. Appoint son Benjamin Duncan and son in law William A. Spencer executors. Witness F.B. Carter, Wm. Neill, John A. Strage. Probated first Monday of August, 1862.

And it appearing from said report that sixty (60) dollars would be a reasonable fee to McGinley & Hood for their services as solicitors in this cause, it is decreed that the Clerk & Master pay said McGinley & Hood said sum of sixty (60) dollars out of the first money that may come into his hands. And it further appearing from said report that the total amount of the estate of B.F. Duncan decd, with interest to date received by H.A. Walker, guardian of Rufus Duncan's heirs, amounts to the sum of $1271 and ?/100 Dollars, and that the amount received by B.A. Horton, guardian of Frank Duncan's heirs, with interest to this date amounts to the sum of $687 and 64/100 Dollars, and that the recovery in this cause, after deducting expenses, amounts to the sum of $617.92, which would make the whole estate due to the heirs of said Rufus and Frank Duncan, the sum of $2575.97, and it appears that the 1/2 of said sum would be the sum of $1287.98, which amount would be due to the heirs of said Frank and Rufus Duncan respectively. And it further appearing that W.A. Walker, guardian of the heirs of Rufus Duncan, has already received of said sum, the sum of $1271.41, and that B.A. Horton, guardian of Frank Duncan's heirs, has received of said sum, the sum of $687.64, and it appearing that the balance of the recovery in this cause due to W.A. Walker, guardian of Rufus Duncan's heirs amounts to $16.58, and that the balance of the recovery in this cause due to B.A. Horton, guardian of the heirs of Frank Duncan, amounts to $600.34. It is ordered by the Court that the Clerk & Master shall pay out of the recover and fund in this cause, the said sum of $16.58 to W.A.       Pg.496-7: GEORGE W. DUNCAN, a progressive farmer residing on section 5, Union Twp, and a prominent citizen of Louisa Co., was born in Blount Co. TN Aug. 26, 1828. His parents, James and Mary (Mitchell) Duncan, were also natives of that State, and the father died when our subject was six years of age. He was a farmer by occupation and was called to his final home when in his fifty-first year. Mrs. Duncan, the mother of our subject, died in 1860, at the age of 72. They were both members of the Associate Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Duncan was an Elder, and one of the liberal contributors and earnest workers. His family of nine children all grew to manhood and womanhood: Andrew who died at the age of 60 years in Crawford Co. IL; William who died at the age of 63 in Wayne Co. IA; Jane widow of George McKay is living in Union Twp, Louisa Co.; James K. died in Crawford Co. IL at the age of 60; Samuel d. in this county, where he was one of the early settlers, at the age of 45; Elizabeth, wife of John C. Ritchie of Columbus City, died in 1849; Martha, wife of Mathew Edmondson of Union twp, died age 45; John, who went to TX in 1844, has not been heard of since the war with Mexico; George W. is the youngest of the family. ....

      DUNCAN. Miss Elizabeth Evans was born October 4, 1838, near Logansport, IN. Was married to John F. Duncan in 1850 (sic), in Mercer Co. IL, where her parents had taken up their abode during her early childhood. Removed to Seward county and settled on a homestead in May, 1866. To her were born six children, only one, Mrs. Effie Manley, of Iowa, now survives. Three of the children were buried at Seward; a bright little girl (Mary) of eight years, a young son, Isaac, who bore sad affliction during his whole life, and a young infant. Her death occurred in the summer of 1872, and she was buried at Seward. Mrs. Duncan was a most noble woman, .... She united with the Missionary Baptist church in her early lifed. ... She left a husband and two children to mourn her loss, one of which, the infant, soon followed her to the tomb.
