Partial help for Jean Porcaro, of Orem, UT, her query published in the Vol.4#3 newsletter July 1996.
She is searching for parents of Timothy Duncan m. Matilda Goodnight (no dates in her query!) who had a cousin Benjamin Duncan who m. Mourning Ellis in Gallatin Co. KY.
Benjamin Duncan, wife Mourning Ellis, was a son of James Duncan, according to "KY Genealogy and Biography" Biographical Sketches reprinted from 1885-1888 "KY, a History of the State" 9 Editions (volumes), by Perrin, Battle & Kniffin; Vol.VIII, pg.54, Prof. Paschel Hickman Duncan, native of Gallatin Co. KY, born 1845, son of Benjamin Duncan native of Harrison Co. KY born 1807 who settled in Gallatin Co. 1818 until his death in 1887, wife Miss M. Ellis (more on the Ellis family); James Duncan, the paternal grandfather of P.H. Duncan, native of Harrison Co. KY, removed to a farm near Danville, Vermilion Co. IL where he died (also pg.788 in 1888 "KY, a History of the State" by Perrin)
I believe this James Duncan, perhaps born PA, who married on 7 Nov. 1798 to Polly Wells in Bourbon Co. KY; James & Polly sold land in Harrison Co. KY in 1818 when they lived in Gallatin Co. KY (Harrison Co. KY Deed Book 6, pg.62, FHC film 216,851); and moved in 1828 to Vermilion Co. IL with his sons Asa, Alpha, Darius and James (1879 "History of Vermilion Co. IL" by Hiram William Beckwith, pub. by H.H. Hill, pg.928). James' son James H. Duncan was born in 1818 in Gallatin Co. KY (ibid, pg.815). Darius was born in 1813 in KY, son of James Duncan a native of PA who removed with his family to KY at an early day (1903 "The Past and Present of Vermilion Co. IL" pub. by S.J. Clarke Pub. Co.; reprint by W.C. Cox 1974). James (Sr.) married 2nd Nancy Taylor in 1832 in next-door Warren Co. IN; James (Sr.) died in 1849 in Vermillion Co. IL, although his heirs are not named in what few records I have there.
