The Error Box, by Mary Ann Dobson:

Issue 1#3 (July 1993) page 37; Revolutionary War Pension Application for George Duncan, b. 1758, lived in Orange Co. IN. This George Duncan born 1758 states in his application that he was the son of John Duncan; we believe that John Duncan who married Jane Hall as his first wife was the brother of George Duncan who married Jane Hall's sister Ann Hall in 1750 in Albemarle Co. VA, although no proof has been found. MAD: I inadvertently listed George b. 1758 as the son of George Duncan and Ann Hall; I apologize for the confusion I created with this error. My thanks to Mary Louise Craven for catching it.

John Duncan, married 1st Jane Hall probably Albemarle Co. VA; married 2nd Sarah Camden, probably Amherst Co. VA; died 1806 probably Amherst Co. VA.

John Duncan, father of George Duncan b. 1758, married as his second wife Sarah Camden, daughter of John Camden who died in 1808 in Amherst Co. VA (Amherst Co. VA Will Book 5, p.559). This second marriage occured at some time before 2 April 1787, when John Duncan and wife Sally Talbert Duncan of Lexington Parish, Amherst Co. VA, sold to Philip Holt (Stott?), 265 acres on the N. branch of Cedar Creek adjoining Joel Watkins (Amherst Co. VA Deed Book F, p.139). John Duncan died by 1806 when his wife Sally and his son William posted bond for administration of his estate (Amherst Co. VA Will Book 4, p.434).

John Duncan's children were named in the Augusta Co. VA Court Judgment in the suit of Stuart vs. Duncan, O.S.192, N.S.68; heirs of Samuel Ayres (died 1784) & wife Rachel Ayres & Rachel's first husband Wm. Morrison (died before 1772), over a tract deeded by Samuel Ayres on 6 June 1774 to John Dillard (all Amherst Co. VA) which came by transfers to John Duncan who died intestate and is now held by his widow Sarah or Sally; answer by William Duncan his son and by Charles Duncan. William Duncan, George Duncan, Campbell Goode & wife Elizabeth, Claiborne Duncan, Charles Duncan, Washington Camden & wife Nancy, William Sale & wife Lavinia; Wiatt, Elizabeth, Wortley (MAD: Wesley), Polly, John, Spicey & Patsy Duncan children & heirs of John Duncan, last seven being infants ("Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in VA - Augusta Co., 1745-1800" Vol.II p.158). His minor children were also named in Amherst Co. VA Will Book 4, p.448, 15 June 1807, guardian bond for Wm. Duncan, security Leonard Henley, as guardian of Polly, Jno., Spicey, Patsey, Willis, and Wesley Duncan, orphans of Jno. Duncan. The court suit named Wiatt Duncan, the guardian bond named Willis Duncan.
